Window Framing Art

Just sharing some fun for the weekend. We decided to visit the new location for a popular, local burger joint – oh ,they do serve steaks and chicken too – called The Grill.  Not a bad burger for sure. We really enjoyed the nostalgic decor as well. The wall next to our table displayed a lot of art work. I wanted to highlight this one because I like the idea a lot.

Planning For Fall

crocus

So, I am convinced I brought the hot New Mexico weather to the Pacific Northwest. Here in Portland, it is probably going to have record breaking temperatures this weekend. The windows will be closed and the AC’s on for sure! However, it is not too soon to plan ahead for what you want to plant outside those windows this fall. I love crocuses. BloomingBulb has some great fall planting specials right now. Besides finding the bulbs you want, you can learn where to plant what, and when. Those pretty crocuses are on sale and the bulbs will get shipped to you in the fall, mid September or so.

daffodil

Think daffodils!

Amaryllis too!

You will love their selection for fall, so plan ahead and take advantage of the great deals.

Meanwhile, I am hoping to see some pretty flowers, even in the heat, as I head up the Columbia River Gorge to an open house for the Girl Scout camp I spent a lot of time at many years ago-what memories. This should be an interesting adventure!

At This Window You Get Potatoes

20170618_161339-e1497976936992.jpg

I just love it when a business endeavor succeeds! I had the pleasure of attending the Oregon BrewFest this past Sunday. My nephew Ken and his wife Amy recently debuted a wonderful food cart here in the Pacific Northwest ( I say here because I was raised in Portland, and am visiting from ABQ). Baked & Loaded Potatoes operates from a cute, little, custom renovated school bus. That’s my sis posing in the Spud Bus window last Sunday at the event held in Silverton, Oregon.

I certainly am not a food critic, but I can honestly say the baked potato I ate was spectacular! What a great addition to all the brew that the festival offered.

If you live anywhere near Portland or Salem, and ever need taters served, or if you just want to follow where the Spud Bus goes be sure to check out their site. No matter where you reside, like their page on Facebook.

When a new business succeeds we all win! Great job, Ken and Amy!

Hanging Outside My Windows

Self Watering Hanging Basket

I love hanging flower baskets on the porch or patio. What I don’t like is when I forget to water them. I have never planted my own, but I do see that in my near future! Now I just have to figure out what gorgeous specimens I am going to plant.

myPotsandPlanters.com has these wonderful self watering planters made from shatter-resistant polypropylene in a variety of colors. Each planter holds 8 quarts of potting soil. Your watering chores are minimal because of a dual-action wick system that taps from a 1 quart reservoir. There is a refill hole at the bottom to make the refill process easy as well. Oh, and the 18″ hanging cord is included!

Pretty sure I need at least 3 of these, and that means 5 per cent off! And,any order over $49 qualifies for FREE SHIPPING!

What pretty flowers will you use?

Taking My Green Thumb Outside the Windows

I love those Irises. Inside my windows, I am fortunate to have a green thumb!  But when it comes to what to do outside, that thumb loses its power. What’s with that? It just shouldn’t be that difficult. Some people have no problem, like my favorite brother-in-law, Ed. This picture was taken after his flowers survived a hail storm!

I was amazed to discover how helpful BloomingBulb can be to solve my dilemma. Besides finding the bulbs you want, you can learn where to plant what, and when. We are smack dab in the middle of spring and it is not too late to do some spring planting. Their bulbs are up to 75% off. You will find great tools to show you when to plant depending on where you live. They decided to invest more in quality and information than fancy ads or catalogs. You can search for your favorites and find out if the time of year is right for your area. Want Gladiolus, check this out!

Thank you BloomingBulb! My outdoor thumb is already a little greener.

Keep on Bloomin

2016-09-05 16.16.14_resized

I love these spider lilies. They bloom without fail outside my windows every year, but I only get their beauty for a couple of weeks. Because I consider the color coral my choice of pink, they really make me happy.

I love blooming plants, which is why I enjoy having a sun room office where I can not only see outside, but I can also successfully grow indoor plants that bloom. African violets, gardenias, a hanging hoya plant and a hibiscus are often blooming around me.

The Easy Wheelie!

{9CE862AC-97F2-4D8E-B78C-738BC099660A}_Wheeleasy Main Images

I know for sure one of my besties (you know who you are) would have appreciated this gem last year when we hauled heavy bags of rocks from the front driveway to the back patio at my wheelbarrow-less home. We got so worn out we ended up using the top of a lawn mower to stack the last bag or two. Awkward, but it sorta worked. The WheelEasy™, available online at Allsop Home and Garden, would have been even better than a wheelbarrow because most of the lifting would have been eliminated! And, if I need to be on the outside of my windows doing the work, I don’t want it to be painful.

The larger model is pictured above, but there is also a smaller version, The WheelEasy™ LE, available. It is the perfect choice for those with less storage space, although either model takes up less room than a wheelbarrow.  Both fold up for storage or transport.{52FE0FD7-B635-465B-A044-803AA823E540}_Weeding_small

Both of these nifty yard carts make moving rocks and gravel, collecting weeds or spreading bark a whole lot easier. Because the handles drop to the ground, you do not have to lift. Are you ready to harvest some veggies? The WheelEasy™ LE  will make the job so easy. And, when fall leaves drop, just rake them into the cart and haul them wherever.

The WheelEasy™ LE holds up to 150 lbs  ($119.99)

The WheelEasy™  holds up to 350 lbs.  ($159.99)

Visit Allsops and make your yard and garden activities a lot more efficient.
