Planning For Fall

crocus

So, I am convinced I brought the hot New Mexico weather to the Pacific Northwest. Here in Portland, it is probably going to have record breaking temperatures this weekend. The windows will be closed and the AC’s on for sure! However, it is not too soon to plan ahead for what you want to plant outside those windows this fall. I love crocuses. BloomingBulb has some great fall planting specials right now. Besides finding the bulbs you want, you can learn where to plant what, and when. Those pretty crocuses are on sale and the bulbs will get shipped to you in the fall, mid September or so.

Meanwhile, I am hoping to see some pretty flowers, even in the heat, as I head up the Columbia River Gorge to an open house for the Girl Scout camp I spent a lot of time at many years ago-what memories. This should be an interesting adventure!

The Plant Stand

My love for clean windows and daylight was probably inspired by my love for indoor plants. Many years ago I owned and operated an indoor plant store that was inside a large shopping mall. The store itself was built with wood and glass from a very old greenhouse, and it sorta leaned up next to a Montgomery Wards; it even had neat wood gutters. Sure wish I had a picture, but any I did have are long gone. Now I have instead a sun-room office with a lot of windows, great light and, of course lotsa plants! And, I take pictures.

A few years back, I passed by a yard sale on my daily, morning walk. I spotted a really cool kitchen cart with stools, and they only wanted $10. I had no idea where I would put it but it was such a great deal. I knew it would fit in the sun-room, but I also knew I had too many plants in that room to add any furniture. Well, you can see above how that turned out. I think it has been my favorite plant stand.

Recently, I have been enjoying re-potting some plants and doing general maintenance on my green friends. I made a trip to the nursery I enjoy to buy a few new ones and now I have taken care of the older ones. It might be time to add some new stands as well.

Pretty sure this A-Frame Stand from myPotsandPlanters.com is a perfect fit!  Look how many plants it will hold. And, you can get it with or without the steel trays. I think that means after I order it I need to make another trip to my favorite nursery for more green friends. Well that certainly is not a problem for me! Check out the great selections at myPotsandPlanters.com All orders $49 and up qualify for FREE SHIPPING!

Oh, my quaint little greenhouse in the mall was called The Plant Stand.

Hanging Outside My Windows

Self Watering Hanging Basket

I love hanging flower baskets on the porch or patio. What I don’t like is when I forget to water them. I have never planted my own, but I do see that in my near future! Now I just have to figure out what gorgeous specimens I am going to plant.

myPotsandPlanters.com has these wonderful self watering planters made from shatter-resistant polypropylene in a variety of colors. Each planter holds 8 quarts of potting soil. Your watering chores are minimal because of a dual-action wick system that taps from a 1 quart reservoir. There is a refill hole at the bottom to make the refill process easy as well. Oh, and the 18″ hanging cord is included!

Pretty sure I need at least 3 of these, and that means 5 per cent off! And,any order over $49 qualifies for FREE SHIPPING!

What pretty flowers will you use?

Taking My Green Thumb Outside the Windows

I love those Irises. Inside my windows, I am fortunate to have a green thumb!  But when it comes to what to do outside, that thumb loses its power. What’s with that? It just shouldn’t be that difficult. Some people have no problem, like my favorite brother-in-law, Ed. This picture was taken after his flowers survived a hail storm!

I was amazed to discover how helpful BloomingBulb can be to solve my dilemma. Besides finding the bulbs you want, you can learn where to plant what, and when. We are smack dab in the middle of spring and it is not too late to do some spring planting. Their bulbs are up to 75% off. You will find great tools to show you when to plant depending on where you live. They decided to invest more in quality and information than fancy ads or catalogs. You can search for your favorites and find out if the time of year is right for your area. Want Gladiolus, check this out!

Thank you BloomingBulb! My outdoor thumb is already a little greener.
