For Your Windows

A favorite of mine, and a great reminder!

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast,
The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
“That laundry is not very clean”, she said.
“She doesn’t know how to wash correctly.
Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.”
Her husband looked on, but remained silent.Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry,
The young woman would make the same comments.About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
Nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:

“Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.
I wonder who taught her this.”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and
Cleaned our windows.”

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others
Depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

It really is much easier to change how we view the world, as opposed to attempting to change what’s in it. ūüôā
Good reason to keep all our windows clean. Life is simply an ongoing choice.

I can usually find ways to keep ants away from the hummingbird feeders. But, I have not figured out how to stop the woodpeckers from checking them out. This one, and ones like him, enjoy taking over the feeders whenever they feel like it. Probably is a lot easier than pecking away at the bark of a tree to find sap. As I was shooting a few pictures, a hummer tried to visit. After all, it is her feeder, or at least it was. There is tree just a few feet away in the front yard, but Mr Woodypants chose to sit on the feeder for at least 5 minutes.

The Plant Stand

My love for clean windows and daylight was probably inspired by my love for indoor plants. Many years ago I owned and operated an indoor plant store that was inside a large shopping mall. The store itself was built with wood and glass from a very old greenhouse, and it sorta leaned up next to a Montgomery Wards; it even had neat wood gutters. Sure wish I had a picture, but any I did have are long gone. Now I have instead a sun-room office with a lot of windows, great light and, of course lotsa plants! And, I take pictures.

A few years back, I passed by a yard sale on my daily, morning walk. I spotted a really cool kitchen cart with stools, and they only wanted $10. I had no idea where I would put it but it was such a great deal. I knew it would fit in the sun-room, but I also knew I had too many plants in that room to add any furniture. Well, you can see above how that turned out. I think it has been my favorite plant stand.

Recently, I have been enjoying re-potting some plants and doing general maintenance on my green friends. I made a trip to the nursery I enjoy to buy a few new ones and now I have taken care of the older ones. It might be time to add some new stands as well.

Pretty sure this A-Frame Stand from is a perfect fit!  Look how many plants it will hold. And, you can get it with or without the steel trays. I think that means after I order it I need to make another trip to my favorite nursery for more green friends. Well that certainly is not a problem for me! Check out the great selections at  All orders $49 and up qualify for FREE SHIPPING!

Oh, my quaint little greenhouse in the mall was called The Plant Stand.

Keep on Bloomin

2016-09-05 16.16.14_resized

I love these spider lilies. They bloom without fail outside my windows every year, but I only get their beauty for a couple of weeks. Because I consider the color coral my choice of pink, they really make me happy.

I love blooming plants, which is why I enjoy having a sun room office where I can not only see outside, but I can also successfully grow indoor plants that bloom. African violets, gardenias, a hanging hoya plant and a hibiscus are often blooming around me.

Please help me welcome a new online site to my blog – bloomingbulb. You can order some beautiful flowers and learn great information about them at their site.

I just might be one of the only bloggers who did not blog on February 29th as we began a year of “leaping” over the day we would normally be on during most years. I thought about addressing the issue, but decided to wait until March arrived.

Ah…March is here, and even if we have wind (we do today) ¬†or a slight snow storm, I am delighted. The fish in my pond act like they want food, but I will wait until a bit later to start feeding them again. Then, it will be time to bring out the hummingbird feeders.¬†

Springtime means sprucing up the backyard and the windows. Inside you might need curtains or blinds. Outside maybe some solar shades. For Your Windows can help you with a lot of window related issues. Check out the Outside Your Windows page that offers greenhouses and bird feeders.

Wouldn’t this be fun to visit in your own backyard?

I never heard of these either!

Called a Monkey Cup, the tropical plant’s real name is Nepenthes. It enjoys eating insects and has found a way to make sure the bugs’ sticky feet do not grab onto the inside surface. Whatever is going on in the interior walls of this plant has inspired a new idea having to do with frying pans and window cleaning. Slippery Liquid-Infused Porous Surface (SLIPS) is the result. What makes those little bugs slide down the plant’s walls will also be good for non-stick pans and self cleaning windows. Pretty interesting concept, but I would not fire my window cleaner yet. Check out the full story here.

When I was really young, like under 10, we had a carnivorous plant in our yard that looked like this. I have never seen one since. I recall it had a very weird scent.

I would like some in a new greenhouse outside my windows. Wonder if they would survive here in the Southwest.

For Your Windows is proud to announce the addition of Outside Your Windows!

I could no longer hold back. I just happen to spend a good portion of my time in my sun room office. It has no quality cheap window coverings (those adorn windows in other rooms of my home), just usually clean windows. I like my windows clean so I can see out of them to enjoy the plants and birds. It seems only fitting to offer products that compliment those pleasures.

Please visit the new department and let me know what you think.

One of the Bird Feeders.

A Greenhouse Selection

Make sure you check out all the new selections. There is something for everyone.

When I first launched For Your Windows, I wanted to make the site different than other online stores that offered window coverings. Because my background is in the window cleaning industry, I have included promoting a “clean window” philosophy even though I could not easily add window cleaning nationwide to my store for you to purchase. My HIRE A PROFESSIONAL theme is fun because it allows me to get acquainted with and support window cleaners all over the US.

Looking back over my blog (yeah, this one), I cannot help but notice my tendency to ramble on about what goes on outside my windows. I am fortunate to work in a wonderful sun room that has the feel of being in an overgrown bird sanctuary, fish pond included.

Since I love “outside my windows” I think it is appropriate to add products to For Your Windows that have the potential to enhance “outside your windows” as well as mine. Not much would do that better than bird feeders and greenhouses.

Just one of the many styles.

And, one choice for the birdies.

The new items will be up on the site within a few days. Can’t wait to have more selections for outside or inside of any of our windows!
