For Your Windows Weather: HOT

Bali Exterior Solar Roller Shade Lattice 5%

The heat is on! It has been reaching about 95 degrees so far this week here in Albuquerque.  Forecast states it will reach 108 in Phoenix today. Wherever you are, summer is here and you will have some hot weather now or soon. If you have windows that face south or west especially, you should consider some exterior solar shades from BlindsExpress.com.

Bali Exterior Solar Roller Shades Style Boxwood 5% and 7% openness

If you block the sun’s rays before they get to the window, deck or patio, you stop heat transference, and that keeps the inside cooler. Extra benefit is lower air-conditioning cost. You can get low or high openness (5% to 10%) depending on the specific situation. Even the 10% blocks out 90% of the harmful UV rays.

Bali Exterior Solar Roller Shades Style Shoji 10% openness

The fabric on these effective solar shades is sun fade resistant, and they come with sturdy, stainless steel cord chains. Right now they are on sale for 15% off at BlindsExpress.com, and SHIPPING IS FREE!

Stay cool, protect belongings from sun damage and keep the costs down all at the same time! Check out all their selections for any shades or blinds.

Hanging Outside My Windows

Self Watering Hanging Basket

I love hanging flower baskets on the porch or patio. What I don’t like is when I forget to water them. I have never planted my own, but I do see that in my near future! Now I just have to figure out what gorgeous specimens I am going to plant.

myPotsandPlanters.com has these wonderful self watering planters made from shatter-resistant polypropylene in a variety of colors. Each planter holds 8 quarts of potting soil. Your watering chores are minimal because of a dual-action wick system that taps from a 1 quart reservoir. There is a refill hole at the bottom to make the refill process easy as well. Oh, and the 18″ hanging cord is included!

Pretty sure I need at least 3 of these, and that means 5 per cent off! And,any order over $49 qualifies for FREE SHIPPING!

What pretty flowers will you use?

Windows for Your Eyes

Victoria

Blocking out the sun’s glare is almost as old as the sun itself.  From using a flat object with slits to thin tinted quartz, or even jewels, has been documented in history. Early versions of sunglasses were also used to cover up the eyes for protection or anonymity. In the 1920’s, Sam Foster found a prime market on the beaches in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both for protection and fashion, sunglasses became very popular. Now, not many of us survive without them. You can buy them with prescription lenses, to wear over your normal glasses or just for fun. Even if you love to buy a top brand pair, having extras or substitutes is a great idea.

     Cape Cod

Sunglass Warehouse is definitely fun! When we are outside the windows, and in the bright sunshine we need protection and fashion. Their prices are so affordable you can have a pair handy anywhere. Right now, they have many styles for under $20, and a code to use to get 15 % off your order. You will be amazed at the wide selection, and the options for protection and style.

Protect those windows for your eyes, and have fun too.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION

Did you know that procuring a new customer costs anywhere from 5 to 8 times more than keeping a customer?  If you have a business, you probably already know that. Of course, you need to have a consistent flow of new customers, but your repeat customer base is the real bread and butter.

In the current business arena, where we get bombarded with half -off coupons everyday in our email, our challenge becomes even more apparent. If the work you did last time you serviced any given customer was not exceptional, they won’t think twice about trying someone new who offers a discount.

Not only do your customers want your product or service, they also want to feel appreciated. Feeling unappreciated is one of the main reasons they will look elsewhere. Depending on the size of your customer base, each week choose between 2 and 10 customers to shower with gratitude. Send them a thank you card through snail mail (what a concept these days). If you do quality control by phone, make sure that you also take time to thank them for being such a loyal customer.

The holiday season provides us with a perfect opportunity to begin making every week

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION WEEK.

LABOR DAY THOUGHTS

The first Monday in September, here in the USA, is labeled Labor Day. Explain that to a child. We get the day off to celebrate working.

In some areas it really does mean end of summer and time to start school. Not here in New Mexico, where the kids went back sometime in August.

I know! After this Monday, we are not allowed to wear white. Time to clean out our closets. However, here we are still hitting over 90 degrees, and I am not willing to retire my white flip flops for the year.

I have a plan. How about we all enjoy a wonderful Labor Day weekend. When it is over, we can see where we sit in terms of all the rules. Return  next week, with or without white accessories, to think about fall.

Happy Labor Day!

“A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE”

I ran into an article recently concerning what happens, or doesn’t happen, when working on plans for building. Anyone who has worked in janitorial or window cleaning has probably asked at least once, “What were they thinking?” Sometimes windows stay dirty for many years because nobody figures out how to get to them.

In that same article there was a great list put together by an insurance specialist who really did his homework.  I found it amazing that architects never get asked the right questions to make sure the building can be maintained. Planning ahead can be very helpful.

Design Flaw Sampler/Housekeeping

  1. Installing doors and elevators that are too narrow to accommodate service equipment.
  2. Installing discontinued or obsolete equipment.
  3. Making entryways too small to handle foot traffic.
  4. Installing lighting that is impossible to service.
  5. A 3-foot-by-5-foot janitor closet with a 3-foot-wide door that opens in.
  6. Installing window systems that cannot be cleaned or serviced easily.
  7. Installing cheap paint that cannot be cleaned.
  8. Failure to install floor drains.
  9. Failure to install appropriate water and snow deflection systems at entrances.
  10. Installing carpet or flooring that shows dirt daily or blue carpet with an asphalt parking lot.

Homeowners could get some ideas from this too, especially if they are building a dream house.

Meanwhile, here is a great example of someone solving the problem after the fact.
