For Your Windows

MY WINDOWS DO NOT NEED BULLET-PROOF GLASS

This morning, I was thinking about a conversation I had with a man who belongs to a study group I attend. He was commenting about how sometimes he is amazed when he is driving at how few mishaps there really are. Overall, drivers do what they are suppose to do. I have often thought that myself. It applies to vandalism as well. With all the potential situations that could occur, for the most part, people respect each other. In fact, when you think about how much doesn’t happen that could, it far outweighs what does happen.

I am sure this would not indicate to all those people affected by the terrible event this week in Colorado. What happened to them far outweighs what should ever happen to any of us. It is so appropriate to have them in our thoughts and send them well wishes.

That being stated, it is also a very good time to remember that most of us get up each day with an opportunity to be very grateful that most people respect each other and want the same thing for others that they want for themselves. The unfortunate, and even evil, things that happen are not the rule, they are pretty minuscule in the whole picture.

I am so glad I have a category titled “windows to the soul” so I can get away with a post that has absolutely nothing to do with business, at least not directly.

Count your blessings, and remember :

GRATITUDE IS EASY AND IT IS FREE

BEING GRATEFUL

It really amazes me that I was somewhere in my fifties before I realized that it was impossible to feel gratitude and negativity ( overall word chosen to describe anything that disturbs my peace) at the same time. This may sound simplistic, but I find it a useful tool when I get stirred up. Recognizing what I can be grateful for right now usurps all the stuff that is out there in the universe ready to distract me if I let it.

Today, Memorial Day, is a day to reflect on gratitude. My kids…all five of them…are lucky to know their father. He is around to tease them or advise them. He was not that lucky. His dad died in WWII at the age of 20.  He is one of so many who fought for all of us to have freedom.

Whatever you do today, remember to pause and take a quiet moment to be grateful. It might just start a habit.

CLOSE THE WINDOW TO INSANITY

I have been thinking a lot lately about marketing, customer service and how both relate to our spending habits and the economy. Nothing like “Black Friday” to stimulate some interesting thoughts.

Back in the 1970’s, I had a retail business in a mall. That particular day kicked off the holiday shopping season. Sometimes it was good and sometimes it was a let-down. Back then the term “Black Friday” had not really spread into all areas as it was a pretty new concept connoting that merchants would actually see “black” instead of “red” in their cash flow.

As a consumer, I still do some shopping in stores and a lot online. However, that Friday is a day that I almost always stay home, purposely avoiding the mayhem. This year, I  am amazed at the way this bizarre marketing strategy has literally crushed the whole concept of Thanksgiving.

How much more money will any given business really make if they open up during Thanksgiving Dinner instead of early Friday morning? I could go on and on and on about all the details, but please someone explain the logic.

Could we just close the window to this insanity for good!

The idea for today is to shop local and support small businesses in your area. I like that idea. I am even going to participate now that my Thanksgiving dinner is digested.

If you do shop online, remember to visit For Your Windows. Gift certificates are available at Wallpaper for Windows, and maybe someone you know would like a neat bird feeder or greenhouse, available at the Outside Your Windows department.

WINDOW CLEANING WEATHER FORECAST

How silly is that! Weather is not the problem. Dirt is.

It does not matter what the weather is doing. The window cleaning weather forecast remains the same everywhere for the next 50 days.

Partly holiday with showers of fun, family and gifts to give.

Rain or snow really does not dirty the windows, or clean them either. Best bet is to HIRE A PROFESSIONAL for that task.  Now that I have the weather issue out of the way, and you are on your way to improving your outlook on life, I am going to go start learning how to put links and pictures here. This is the first time I have used my new tablet to blog and I have a lot to figure out. Please refer to links on the left to visit other sites.

WHAT’S UP? WAY UP!

My son took this picture of a co-worker he shared the neck pain with yesterday. The body position they had to endure to clean these windows made it necessary to trade off frequently or suffer the consequences. Unfortunately, he was still sore when I saw him later in the day. It will be interesting to hear how he feels today.

This is just one of the reasons you should hire a professional window cleaner when your windows are dirty. Shoot, my neck hurts if I have to change one light bulb from a ceiling light or hang a window covering.

And, speaking of what’s up.

Today and tomorrow are the last two days to enter the For Your Windows $75 Giveaway. Right before the holiday season, too. Be sure to check out the details and enter now.

THAT WINDOW WORD

Comparing windows.

Windows in front of windows.

Windows with no screens behind a screen with windows open.

When we opened our first window cleaning business in the early 1980’s, there was really no question about what the word “window” referred to. Who would have ever thought that 30 years later “cleaning windows” would mean more than making the glass in your home sparkle.

Silly me! When I launched For Your Windows, just a little over a year ago, you would think I would have known better. About the only way we relate to those windows on the computer is encouraging you to open up a few and check out all the window coverings and window related items we offer.

Visit For Your Windows to see what used to be -and still can be – for your windows.

Some days, I just like to have fun. 🙂

Next Friday, we will be giving away the $75 SEARS GIFT CARD. Make sure you enter the drawing!
